In addition to the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School, the criteria for admission to the M.A. in Counseling program include an applicant's potential success in forming effective interpersonal relationships in individual and small-group contexts, aptitude for graduate-level study, career goals and objectives, openness to self-examination, and potential for personal and professional self-development. Students are not required to have an undergraduate major in any particular field to enter the counseling program. Admission decisions are based on applicants individual profiles and made by a committee of program faculty. Applicants with the highest profile rankings are invited to campus for an interview process, the number invited is determined by the number of anticipated openings in the program.
For non-native English language speakers: official and satisfactory scores on the English language proficiency scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are required. A minimum score of 83 on the Internet-based TOEFL or a minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS is required for admissions consideration.
Our admissions requirements are as follows:
Possession of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
Overall GPA of 3.0

The Master of Arts in School Counseling program equips graduate students to be multiculturally competent and socially aware k-12 licensed professional school counselors who lead comprehensive, developmental, and collaborative school counseling programs. The program prepares students to be leaders, advocates for social justice and system change specialists capable of assessing, developing, implementing, and sustaining data-based programs that provide equitable services for all. Graduates will be competent in individual and group counseling and effective at consultation and collaboration with teachers, parents, community agencies as well as other community resources and important stakeholders.<br>Our School Counseling Concentration is designed with a multicultural and social justice focus and is based on the American School Counselor Association National Model. Our students will have immediate exposure to diversity through coursework and training on how best to serve a diverse student population.<br><br>CAREER OPTIONS<br>The majority of our graduates obtain school counseling positions in public or private elementary, middle and secondary schools. As a result of the quality and reputation of our program, a number of students have received job offers while completing their final internship. Graduates may pursue careers in a number of areas such as: School counselor in public, private and charter elementary, middle and secondary schools<br>School counseling department chair District school specialist, Academic advisor in community colleges and universities<br>Independent college counselor, Counselor for a non-profit organization focused on outreach and volunteer services<br>Veterans Affairs counselor, Career center counselor, Admissions counselor for community colleges or universities
