International Students - International students are also required to have a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL, 213 computer-based, 80 if internet-based, 6.5 if IELTS, or 53 if PTE
Applicants who do not have an academic background in the social/behavioral sciences are required to 9 credits from these areas. Of these 9 credits, 3 credits must include Abnormal Psychology*. Other examples of courses include, sociology, psychology, anthropology, cultural studies, philosophy, etc. While an undergraduate course is acceptable, professional licensure laws and requirements vary slightly by state. As such, CMHC students are encouraged to take Abnormal Psychology at the graduate level.
Bachelor's degree
9 semester hours in behavioral sciences or closely related fields for Clinical Mental Health and Student Affairs applicants. Can be completed concurrently with the program.

The 60-credit MS degree with a concentration in CMHC includes the coursework and field experiences (practicum/internships) required for licensure as a mental health professional in Nebraska.Students who complete two additional elective courses (COUN 8686 & COUN 8696) will also have completed the academic requirements for provisional licensure in the area of Alcohol and Drug Counseling (LADC) in Nebraska.<br>The Department of Counseling at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) offers a Master of Science degree with concentrations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling (P-12), and Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education.<br>The purpose of the Counseling Department is to prepare a diverse student population at the master's degree level for professional service as school counselors, clinical mental health counselors, student affairs professionals, and/or for advanced study. Graduates of the program are prepared to function professionally within their area(s) of concentration.<br>As dedicated practitioners, reflective scholars, and responsible citizens, our graduates are prepared to fill the need for highly trained professionals. Graduates are trained to support the broad range of counseling needs of the metropolitan community including individual, couples, and family and group counseling.
