With health care constantly evolving and being driven by an unquantifiable human factor, the industry is in constant need of well-rounded professionals that can help, understand, and relate to a broad spectrum of patients. If you hold an appreciation for the history of medicine, the physician-patient relationship, and the need for strong social competence in health care, you may wish to major in medical humanities. UTSA's Medical Humanities degree draws upon the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and arts to prepare you for careers in medicine and health. Working within a competency-based framework, this program seeks to interpret the human factors that relate to illness and wellness. You will cover a broad range of health and humanities topics, such as the biology of aging, the history of medicine and disease, the psychology of health, social context of drug use, health care systems, medical sociology, and more.<br>The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Medical Humanities is an interdisciplinary degree drawing upon the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and arts disciplines to prepare students for careers in medicine and health within a competency-based framework that promotes the interpretation of human factors associated with illness and wellness.
