The courses in this concentration explore the historical processes that have created and continue to shape the diverse people living in the Americas throughout the centuries, focusing specifically on the peoples of Latin American origins and by calling attention to the complex interplay among Indigenous, African, European, Arab, Asian and Semitic societies in the region. This concentration provides the methodological and theoretical tools to analyze longitudinally and comparatively key historical issues such as colonization, imperialism, militarism, revolution, the struggles for liberation and self-determination, nationalism, and the creation of borders and boundaries, as well as the development of unique art and literary expressions.?The Latin American and Latino Studies Program explores the cultural contributions of Latin Americans to the global community and highlights perspectives and traditions that have developed in the region. Examine the multicultural relationship between peoples and cultures of Latin America, including indigenous, European, Semitic, Arab, Asian and African societies, and explore the profound linkage that has emerged between Latin America and the United States, particularly through the construction of Latino communities in the U.S. The Latin American and Latino Studies Program explores the cultural contributions of Latin Americans to the global community and highlights perspectives and traditions that have developed in the region.
