English is the primary language of instruction in all Faculties except Facult Saint-Jean. All undergraduate applicants to any program or course except Facult Saint-Jean need an adequate level of English language proficiency before admission, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin. The University of Alberta reserves the right to use discretion in determining adequate levels of language proficiency to ensure success in academic programs.
Graduation from a recognized degree program offered by an accredited university at which English is the primary language of instruction or in a country where English is the primary language.
A score of at least 90 on the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Internet-based) with no less than 21 on each band.
A score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) with no band less than 6.0.
A score of at least 70 on the Canadian Academic English Language assessment: CAEL (paper) or CAEL CE (computer) with no band less than 60.

In this program, youll learn how to use collective action, policies, institutions, and management approaches to influence environmental and natural resources issues. Youll also develop a scientific understanding of environmental change, with a focus on the social context through which environmental issues are addressed. This five-year program, offered jointly by the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Native Studies, focuses on Indigenous history, politics, and cultural values, natural resource management, and the stewardship of Indigenous lands, within the context of government policies and industrial development. Youll also have the opportunity to attend a 10-day field school. Human Dimensions of Environmental Management is the required major for this degree.
