Bachelor's degree (minimum second class) in an appropriate area of study.
We encourage students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and with strong academic qualifications. Typically, we admit students with a high ‘B' average (75%) or better, and with relevant scholastic and personal experience.
Students who have completed secondary schooling, an undergraduate program, or a graduate program at a recognized institution where the language of instruction is English will normally not require an English proficiency test. If the institution is located outside of Canada and/or the language of instruction is not clearly indicated on the official transcript, applicants are advised to provide a letter from their university stating the language of instruction.
TOEFL - Paper-based score of 550 or higher, or Internet-based with a score of 80 or higher.
IELTS - An average band score of 6.5 or higher on the academic test.

Geography has been taught at Memorial since 1946 and was raised to the status of full department in 1960. Graduate studies began in 1970 with the MA and MSc, and the PhD was added in 1992. Our mission statement is to foster a spirit of inquiry about the geography of the world around us through our teaching and research, and to provide our students with the analytical tools needed to explore the questions that arise and the skills with which to communicate their findings. Graduate research is conducted within the fields of climatology, cultural, historical, and economic geography, geographic information systems, geomorphology, Quaternary studies, regional development, remote sensing, and resource management.
