Cannot include letter from graduate faculty advisor of choice on the application.
3. Application must indicate preferred faculty advisor. Applicants should contact their preferred advisor before submitting their application to discuss whether the advisor currently is accepting graduate students.
4. Applicants who apply to the Animal Science graduate program will need to choose an area of interest. The MS and PhD programs offer the following areas of interest: Animal Genetics and Genomics, Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology, Animal Physiology, Meat Science, and Food Microbiology and Safety. Applicants will have a chance to explain their preferred area of interest in their Personal Statement.
You must hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree
Minimum overall scores of 79 (Internet-based test iBT/ iBT Home Edition), 550 (Old Paper-based test PBT) or 22/30 on each of the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections (New Paper-based test- PBT) or higher on the TOEFL test. (TOEFL Essentials is not accepted.)
Personal Statement
A minimum overall score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test
A minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE Test.

The Doctor of Philosophy degree is offered in Animal Science. Several areas of concentration are offered within the Animal Science Field of Study including: Animal Genetics and Genomics, Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology, Food Microbiology and Safety, Meat Science and Animal Physiology. The PhD degree requires demonstrated capabilities for conducting independent research plus related scholarly attributes. All graduate students receiving assistantship support are required to assist with the teaching of one (1) course per year of enrollment as part of their professional development.<br><br>Each PhD plan of study must include thirty (30) credits of course work beyond the baccalaureate degree or its equivalent, or at least fifteen (15) credits beyond the master's degree or other advanced degree in the same or a closely related field of study. All Ph.D. students must complete one credit of ANSC 5693 (Graduate Presentation Skills) and two credits of ANSC 5694 (Seminar). Students who have previously completed one credit of ANSC 5693 are exempt from that requirement. In addition to these course credit requirements, students must complete coursework necessary to satisfy the foreign language or related area requirements as prescribed by the Graduate School. In addition to this coursework, satisfactory completion of at least fifteen (15) credits of GRAD 6950 Doctoral Dissertation Research or Grad 6960 Full-Time Doctoral Dissertation Research is required.<br>The courses listed below are those typically taken by students enrolled in the specified areas of concentration, and are provided to help guide you in planning your curriculum. Ultimately, the classes you select will be chosen through discussions with your major advisor and doctoral advisory committee, and subsequently listed on your Plan of Study. These courses may be deemed unnecessary due to previous training at other institutions.
