Official GRE scores required: Send official scores from The Educational Testing Service (ETS). The ETS institution code for the GRE is 6882. No department or program code is needed.
Official transcripts - Applicants should upload one copy of the official academic transcript from every senior college they have attended. Transcripts are not required from junior colleges and community colleges.
Statement of Purpose (SOP) - Submit online with your application. If you do not wish to be considered for financial aid or have your own funding or fellowship, please indicate so in your Statement of Purpose.
Resume - Suggested, but not required. You may upload your resume onto the Cockrell graduate application.
Three letters of recommendation, preferably from academic sources
The Graduate School requires applicants to have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution.
A grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or a comparable GPA in upper-division workjunior- and senior-level coursesand in any graduate work already completed is also required.
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination

The graduate program in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering is known worldwide for developing students into leaders in engineering practice, research, and education. We welcome applications from highly qualified and motivated students for the M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees.<br>The complex problems surrounding the nexus of cities, water and energy demand that engineers have increased breadth and depth of knowledge. CAEE strives to provide students with the educational background and teamwork needed to innovate future solutions, technologies, and sustainable systems. We are dedicated to creative, comprehensive teaching and research that ranges from fundamental to applied.<br>Our many research centers provide graduate students with the opportunity to explore their areas of interest and to be a part of a supportive, intellectually stimulating community. With state-of-the-art facilities, the CAEE graduate program is designed to educate engineers who will be at the forefront of the profession in industry, academia, civil service, and beyond.<br>Applicants are expected to have an undergraduate degree in engineering. However, exceptional candidates with other undergraduate degrees can be considered for admission, but will be required to complete additional undergraduate leveling courses prior to beginning graduate work. The typical leveling courses required will depend on the student's background.<br>The department offers the Master of Science in Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. The Doctor of Philosophy degree is offered only in Civil Engineering. Applicants interested in graduate studies in Architectural Engineering should apply to Civil Engineering.<br>The Sustainable Systems graduate program focuses on a cross-disciplinary approach to addressing the complex problems surrounding the nexus of cities, water, and energy. Between these broad themes are important and emerging connections that bring opportunities for creating a more sustainable future. The Sustainable Systems MS/PhD program builds on the strengths of The University of Texas at Austin as a leader in engineering and allows for considerable flexibility in the selection of courses and research experiences. Students who understand the global imperative for innovation will be trained by faculty from across disciplines to understand, analyze and drive change as it relates to the environment, economics, and society, and will learn to be systems-based, innovative thinkers.
