In collaboration with Fleming College, the specialization in Applied Agriculture is perfect for students in the Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems B.A. or B.Sc. program who are new to farming and seek an intensive, applied learning experience in sustainable, ecological or natural farming methods. This unique opportunity also includes a 21-week hands-on co-op farm experience. Students admitted to the program register as fulltime Fleming students in the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture, beginning in January following the fall term of the last year of their SAFS program. Students who complete the three-semester graduate certificate with a minimum average of 70% will receive 3.0 elective credits towards their Trent Honours degree. Humans need to eat, and while this shared necessity unites us in many ways, discovering new ways to grow enough food for seven billion people sustainably has become an increasingly crucial global challenge. By studying sustainable agriculture, you can learn to create food systems that are responsible, justice- oriented, efficient, effective, and viable. In this program, you'll examine the pathways between farm and table and their implications for people, the economy, and the planet. Learn about the challenges and benefits of producing and distributing healthy, affordable food in sustainable ways, and prepare for a career in which you can affect change and positively impact your community.
