This program will introduce you to the scientific and practical aspects of the sustainable agriculture industry. You will gain the knowledge and skill to help develop agricultural solutions to some of the issues facing our changing planet. Choose one major from three different options: Agronomy, Horticulture, or Livestock and Poultry Science. Each major is designed to give you insight into how specific agricultural practices and environmental impacts can be better balanced. Apply your knowledge and develop professional skills during an optional 120-hour placement in your third year with a host organisation in either Australia or overseas that has direct links with your chosen plan of study. Learn in world-class facilities at Gatton campus, which is home to a 1054-hectare farm, research greenhouses, nursery and tissue culture facilities, research laboratories, and the Queensland Animal Science Precinct.<br><br>You will study a range of sciences including animal behaviour, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, health, genetics and reproduction that underpin the effective and humane production of animals for food, fibre and pharmaceuticals. You will use the latest technologies in disease control, welfare management, animal environment interactions and product quality. You will also study business principles and gain practical skills in applying these through industry placements to ensure the profitable and sustainable management of livestock & poultry.
