A baccalaureate degree in the Natural Sciences is required for entry into the MSMS program. Certain course prerequisites may be required before enrolling in graduate MSMS courses, depending on the student's academic preparation and research interests.
Students graduating with a Bachelor's degree in the Natural Sciences with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher may apply to the MSMS program at HPU.
TOEFL (IBT) overall score of 80 with a writing score of 25 or IELTS overall score of 6.0 with a writing score of 6.5.
TRANSCRIPTS - Please request one set of official transcripts from every college and university from which you earned a bachelor's degree or higher sent to HPU.
Individuals applying to the Marine Science program must submit an essay of up to 1000 words stating your purpose in undertaking graduate study at Hawai'i Pacific University. Describe your academic objectives, research interests, and career plans. Discuss how your unique background would contribute to the diversity of Hawai'i Pacific University's Marine Science program and to the educational experiences of your fellow classmates. You may also take this opportunity to provide information about related qualifications, including collegiate, professional, and community activities, and any other substantial accomplishments not already mentioned in the application. The essay portion is a requirement on the online application.

The applied track provides students with a broad-based, in-depth knowledge of physical, geological, chemical, and ecological processes in the ocean coupled with the technical skills necessary to contribute to the exploration of the marine environment and the management of its living resources. Because the MSMS-A track is designed primarily for students seeking careers in applied resource management, this program emphasizes the practical skills and the analytical expertise required to monitor and manage the global ocean system.<br>The applied track culminates in a hands-on practicum experience working directly with marine resource management professionals to make connections and earn a distinct educational advantage. Full-time students should expect to take 3-4 courses each semester and complete the track in 2 years (4 semesters).
