Students admitted into this program must have completed a bachelor's degree before can be admitted to this program.
Statement of Purpose: The statement of purpose should be a 750-1000 word essay that describes your interest in historic preservation and CU Denver, as well as your academic and professional goals.
A compact portfolio (max. 20 pages 8.5 X 11) of writing samples, and (optionally) graphic work and a professional resume are strongly recommended. Please upload of PDF to the online application.
Submission of Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores is recommended for applicants without evidence of prior successful graduate-level accomplishment.
Three letters of recommendation: You will submit the contact information in your application for three instructors or other professionals who can attest to your potential for our MSHP program. They will receive an email from CU Denver with a link to upload their letters directly to your application.
Transcript(s): International transcripts: An International Credential Evaluation Report is required for any applicant who attended one or more academic institution(s) located outside the United States. All international credentials from the academic institution(s) located outside the United States will need to be verified for authenticity and evaluated by CU Denver or an external evaluation provider (ECE or WES).
An official conferred degree transcript is required by the university.

The Master of Science in Historic Preservation (MSHP) is for students seeking training in spatial, technical, and design aspects of the broader field, it encompasses architecture, cultural landscapes, preservation, planning, building technology, project management, documentation, interpretation, and representation. The CU Denver Dana Crawford Preservation Program offers a Master of Science in Historic Preservation that prepares students for a true, 21st-century career in preservation. The curriculum equips you to participate in preserving historic buildings and sites. It presents opportunities for you to study large-scale landscape conservation, the preservation of cultural heritage and underrepresented communities, the impact of gentrification in cities, and how preservation can create solutions to improve and expand affordable housing.<br>Throughout your time in the program, you will have the opportunity to carve a unique path and personalize your degree through independent study courses, various certificate programs, and elective courses across the university. Historic preservation cannot exist on its own. So the curriculum encompasses a range of studies including architecture, cultural landscapes, planning, policy, building technology, project management, documentation, interpretation, and representation.<br>The Master of Science in Historic Preservation (MS HP) in the Dana Crawford Preservation Program is a 45 semester- hour program, usually completed in 15 or 18 months (three regular semesters and possibly part or all of one summer). The curriculum equips you to participate in the preservation of historic buildings and sites. It also presents opportunities for you to study large-scale landscape conservation, the preservation of cultural heritage and underrepresented communities, the impact of gentrification in cities and how preservation can be tied in with affordable housing. As our global climate changes, environmental sustainability and historic preservation are even more closely linked.
