Neuroscience (the scientific study of the nervous system) and Cognitive Science (the study of how information is represented and transformed in the human brain) are moving ever closer together due to recent technological advances. A subtopic of neuroscience and cognitive science is communication. If human interaction and understanding fascinates you, this emphasis might be a good fit. The study of language and communication falls under the broad umbrella of cognitive science. Students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science with a Language and Communication Science emphasis study within the College of Science's School of Mind, Brain and Behavior. This school also holds the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. Here, students gain interdisciplinary understanding of communication through an intense study of linguistics, neurobiology, cognitive development, auditory function and more. Undergraduates gain hands-on research experience and preparation for advanced study and careers in social services, neurorehabilitation, education and other diverse fields.
