Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university. Statement of Purpose - Provide a statement (approximately 500 words) that identifies your academic goals (graduate study and research), career objectives, why you are applying to this program, and the qualifications that make you a strong candidate for this program. GRE Scores (Graduate Record Exam) - Required of both native and non-native English speakers. These scores must be sent directly to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese by the Educational Testing Service. Institutional code: 1324, Dept. code: 2608. A cumulative score of at least 79-80 on the Internet based exam (213 on the computer based exam, or 550 on the paper exam) is required. IELTS scores may be accepted in lieu of the TOEFL, minimum score of 6.5 is required. Letters of Recommendation. Transcripts - Official transcripts of academic work from all previous postsecondary institutions must be submitted.

Our graduate program in Hispanic Linguistics investigates the properties of the Spanish language in its many contexts of use. We foster a collaborative environment. Our faculty and students often produce joint research and present at major venues for Hispanic Linguistics and general Linguistics in their disciplinary areas. Our program promotes hands-on and cross-disciplinary engagement in order to strengthen both breadth and depth in graduate training. We offer multiple opportunities to students, such as research assistantships and other collaborations that provide direct access to all the stages of the research process.
