Applicants typically have a 3.0 GPA or higher on the last 60 undergraduate semester hours from their bachelor's degree. The admissions committee strives to evaluate candidates holistically. Applicants who have lower GPAs will be considered by individual review for provisional admission.

International students must demonstrate English language proficiency. Minimum TOEFL score requirement is 79, Minimum IELTS score is 6.5.
An application letter that includes a statement in which you address your purpose in pursuing graduate study in the Women's & Gender Studies Program at UNT. Include your professional plans, career goals, background in topics/theories related to Women's & Gender Studies, and areas of research interest relevant to our program
A current vita or resume in which you address the following areas (as applicable):
- Educational background
- Previous work & leadership experience
- Publications, performances, exhibitions, or other scholarly activities
- Previous research experience, including publications
- Involvement in community activities
Two signed letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic and/or professional abilities. At least one letter must be from a professor who can speak to your academic capacities and potential to succeed in graduate study, one letter may be submitted by a current or past employer. Academic references are preferred. The writer should submit their letter directly to the department.
A scholarly writing sample from an upper-level undergraduate course or an honor's thesis. The writing sample should demonstrate your proficiency at conducting and reporting research.

Work to challenge social injustices in a global context. Our program facilitates students' interactions with more than 40 members of the Women's and Gender Studies affiliated faculty, expanding understandings of gender differences, cultural diversity, and social changes while strengthening critical thinking and communication skills. You will take courses offered through the Women's and Gender Studies program and through other departments, and interact with more than 40 members of the Women's and Gender Studies affiliated faculty.<br><br>Faculty member's scholarship supports and sustains campus-wide discussions in areas such as feminist activism, feminist approaches, global contexts, women's social movements and explorations of how class, gender, race and other social constructs shape people's experiences.<br><br>You will expand your understanding of cultural diversity, gender differences and social changes while strengthening your communication and critical thinking skills. We have affiliated faculty members across the university including in English, History, Communication Studies, Anthropology, and Art.
