The Department of Political Science seeks to guide students towards becoming active and informed members of the community, locally and globally. We train students in four subfieldsAmerican Politics, Comparative Politics, Political Theory, and Public Lawwith the aim of increasing their knowledge of the historical and geographical specificity of political power, institutions, values and practices, as well the ways in which these can be transformed. Our faculty supports students as they learn to think and act as conscious and fully engaged political agents, committed to social justice and political transparency and participation. Students leave the classroom with the knowledge and skills to open doors to diverse career opportunities. Undergraduate study in political science is designed to develop knowledge, analytical skills, and critical insight into the nature of politics and political problems. The aim is to prepare students for active engagement in political life, whether as informed citizens or in a range of possible careers. The department endeavors to acquaint students with the issues of political life that have absorbed political thinkers and actors through the ages, as well as to equip students with the most contemporary skills for research analysis and policymaking. Students demonstrate knowledge of basic facts about the American political system. Students demonstrate comparative knowledge of diverse political systems around the world.
