Applicants for the certificate must hold a master's degree in early childhood education, child development, child mental health, counseling, psychology, family environmental sciences (emphasis on child development/family relations), social work, clinical pediatric nursing or other relevant disciplines.
Applicants must have had at least one course in child development in the last 7 years and a minimum of 2 years of experience in working with children, parents or families.
Applicants must meet the University criteria for acceptance into master's programs.
Applicants may be reviewed by the program committee especially set up for this certificate program.
Have a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
Be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended
Have satisfied one of the following conditions:
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all undergraduate units
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units from all post-secondary institutions
Hold an acceptable post-baccalaureate degree earned at a regionally accredited institution and:
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all units attempted as an undergraduate, or
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units attempted from all post-secondary institutions attended.
All OFFICIAL transcripts for any college or university courses you have completed in original language of issue. Your records must include official verification of degree completion.

This program at CSUN is designed for educators and social service professionals who want to expand their knowledge of the complex adult-child relationship.<br>By learning skills in intervention and consultation with parents, teachers and child care providers, you'll help enhance the quality of adult-child interactions and prevent serious problems from developing in children. In addition to course requirements, you'll be expected to complete a minimum of 40 hours of professional development training outside of the classroom. This includes conference attendance, seminars and workshops.<br>After obtaining this certificate, you'll be qualified to assist and support parents (including biological, adoptive and foster parents) with problem-solving strategies designed to soothe child and sibling relationships.
