Individuals from an applied human nutrition discipline as well as individuals who have non-AHN backgrounds are encouraged to apply to the MSc-AHN and PhD-AHN programs. We welcome students with diverse backgrounds such as applied human nutrition, nutritional sciences, food science, biomedical science, health promotion, psychology, and kinesiology. An Honours (4 years) Baccalaureate degree or equivalent for Masters programs
A thesis-based MSc in a closely related field for Doctoral programs
A minimum cumulative average of 75% over the most recent 20 courses (2 years).
Successful completion of both a statistics and a social science research methods course with a grade of 75% or higher (70% for CFT applicants).
The requirements may be in progress at the time of application but must be completed by April 30. The department may withhold an offer until such time that applicants demonstrate that they have completed specific requirements.
Research interests must be compatible with those of one or more of the department's graduate faculty (excluding MAN applicants).
Applicants are evaluated on a competitive basis. These are minimum requirements and accepted applicants may have significantly higher academic achievement.
International English Language Testing System (Academic) (IELTS) 6.5 , Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and (TOEFL Special Home Edition (iBT)) 89 A minimum score of 21 must be achieved in each of the four categories (listening, speaking, reading, writing)

The Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, known around the University as 'FRAN', is an interdisciplinary unit focusing on human health and development in diverse communities. The Department has existed under a variety of names since 1903 and is one of the founding departments of the University of Guelph. Since its inception, the Department has been interdisciplinary in pursuit of its mandate to respond to the evolution of contemporary issues affecting families in their social contexts.<br>There are many exciting projects and opportunities within FRAN, including the Bachelor of Applied Science for undergraduate students, with majors in Adult Development, Applied Human Nutrition, and Child, Youth & Family, beginning Fall 2020, the majors will be Applied Human Nutrition, Child Studies, and Family Studies and Human Development. At the graduate level, we offer MSc and PhD programs in both Applied Human Nutrition, and Family Relations & Human Development, as well as the only MSc Couple and Family Therapy program in Canada accredited by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. For those students wishing to become Registered Dietitians, we offer the Master of Applied Nutrition, an internship-based program fully accredited by Dietitians of Canada. <br><br>The department's research is equally wide-ranging, encompassing both theoretical and applied research.
