The Fashion Merchandising program equips students to become leaders in the complex and global fashion industry. Students will apply knowledge of fashion design and production processes Students will apply skills to fashion merchandising and retail management Students will apply historical and contemporary knowledge to address issues and trends within the fashion industry Students will apply innovative thinking and technological competencies within the fashion industry. Students perform professional functions in an appropriate establishment. (Note: application and copy of undergraduate program must be submitted to coordinator of the internship program once complete semester prior to the semester a student plans to do the internship. Fashion Merchandising Learning Outcomes: Understand the roles of the merchandiser, designer and product developer both locally and globally Identify and evaluate design elements and trends from key eras of fashion history Employ concepts of fashion merchandising, retail management, retail buying, special events and promotions, visual merchandising, and image/fashion consulting Examine concepts related to the cultural, social, and psychological aspects of textiles, dress and appearance Achieve economic prosperity while protecting the earth by implementing sustainability practices Combine innovative thinking and technological competence to develop, assess, and present information using various sources including the internet and social media Gain proficiency in Photoshop, Illlustrator and Excel
