Admission is competitive. Applicants must meet both the competitive admission average for the specific program and present specific required courses with the minimum required grades. In addition to meeting general admission requirements, admission to the Bachelor of Child Studies requires the following specific high school courses (or equivalents).
Applicants in all admission categories must present:
English Language Arts 30-1 - minimum grade 60%
Competitive admission average
Admission to Mount Royal is competitive, meaning students with higher grades will be considered first.
High School Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on the two highest Group A courses.
Mature Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on the two highest Group A courses.
Post-secondary Applicant: competitive Grade Point Average (GPA) will be calculated on the four most recently completed transferable post-secondary courses (minimum 12 credits) completed by December 31.
Final admission average
High School Applicant: must present a minimum admission average of 65%, calculated on the five appropriate Grade 12 courses. Must also present the required courses and minimum grades listed above.
Mature Applicant: must present the required courses and minimum grades listed above.
Post-secondary applicant: must present a minimum admission Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 on the eight most recently completed transferable post-secondary courses (minimum 24 credits) completed by June 30. Must also present the required courses and minimum grades listed above.

Make a difference in the lives of children, youth and families who have been made vulnerable by systems and institutions. Learn the skills of counselling and advocacy in working with children, youth and young adults. Gain knowledge and experience in areas such as relational practice, child and adolescent development, mental health and assessment and intervention strategies. Employment opportunities include school programs, group homes, treatment and mental health centres, and community programs. The children, youth and families you will work with may have suffered physical, sexual or emotional abuse, neglect andor family breakdown. Some may also have behavioural or learning difficulties which require your knowledge, skill and support.
