The minimum requirement for admission to the M.A. in Public History Program is an Honours bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) with at least high honours standing. In their statement of interest students should clearly outline the academic research project they wish to pursue and explain their interest in the field. Normally, part-time study is not encourage in the Public History program.
Transcript(s) (all post-secondary transcripts are required including the transcript legends/keys/grading scales. A transcript legend is not required for a Carleton University transcript.)
Letters of Reference (2 required, up to 3 may be uploaded)
A Statement of Intent (1 required)
CV or Resume (1 required including information regarding Proficiency in Languages other than English.)
Writing Sample (1 required)
Language Proficiency / ESL Test Scores (if applicable)
TOEFL iBT (including iBT Home Edition) - 86 (20 in reading and listening, 22 in speaking and writing)
IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 IELTS (minimum 6.0 in each band)

The Carleton MA in Public History is an innovative program designed to equip historians with an enhanced awareness of the specific challenges of applying historical knowledge and methodologies in the public sphere. A critical component is engagement with the field of public history and the work of public historians. Many courses involve collaborative projects with community partners.<br><br>A collaborative specialization in Digital Humanities is also available.<br><br>Faculty members work closely with history institutions, groups and activists in the region. Challenging yet flexible, the curriculum combines graduate courses in history with specialized courses that explore the practice and theory of public history. Paid internships are available in the summer between first and second year (subject to availability). Students hone their research, analytical and presentation skills through a major research project.<br><br>Length: 2 years
