课程简介
The history of the modern Middle East and the Arab world is a field that puts Rice students at the cutting edge of research that focuses on questions such as coexistence, sectarianism, missionary work, and U.S. involvement in the Middle East since the nineteenth century. Faculty are especially committed to promoting close collaboration between the fields of Middle Eastern History and the U.S. and the World. This approach offers graduate students a unique opportunity to study encounters from multiple perspectives and to understand the implications of American power for Middle Eastern societies. Graduate students can take advantage of Rice University's Center for the Middle East at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy as well as collaborate with the newly approved Center for Arab Studies at the University of Houston. Knowledge of Arabic is a necessity for entering this field.
