The Art History program offers three options for degrees at McMaster: a BA in Art History (3 years), a BA Honours in Art History (4 years) and a BA Combined Honours Art History and Another Subject (4 years). Art History courses are cross-listed with Classics, Communication Studies, History, Multimedia, Philosophy, and Studio Art and also offer important contact with practicing artists enrolled in the Honours Art program.<br>This dynamic program incorporates materials from the McMaster Museum of Art into its curriculum in several courses, and students also undertake significant work at other regional galleries. Recent graduates from the program have enrolled in Applied Humanities courses for which they have curated exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. An active program of Visiting Artists offers students opportunities to meet contemporary artists working in a variety of media and fields.<br><br> <br><br>Honours Art History students have been accepted for graduate school at the following institutions: Queen's University, the University of Toronto, McGill University, York University, the Courtauld Institute of Art, Cambridge University, Parsons School of Design and the Bard Graduate Center. Art History students are encouraged to pursue studies of at least one language while completing their undergraduate degree. In the fourth year of an Honours BA there are opportunities for students to work as teaching assistants or markers, an experience many have found helpful in preparing for graduate school and teacher's college.
