Applicants must have a B.A. from an accredited university by the projected fall quarter of admission. Students applying to the Ph.D. program will normally have majored in Chinese, Japanese, or East Asian Studies as an undergraduate. If majoring in another field or discipline, they will have already carried out a substantial amount of academic course work Chinese, Korean, Japanese, or East Asian Studies and will have completed at least three years of formal study in either Chinese, Korean, or Japanese languages.
TOEFL scores 550 Paper-Based Test (PBT), 80 Internet-Based Test (IBT) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Overall Band score of 7 or higher (if applicable).
Online applications are available September to December 10th for admission for the following Fall.

课程简介
The Ph.D. degree is designed to prepare students for academic and other professional careers that increasingly demand research and expertise across traditional disciplinary boundaries within the humanities and social sciences. At this historical juncture, we are especially interested in building bridges between national, regional and transnational studies. We also seek to explore issues of national identity within and beyond East Asia, to examine the gendering of East Asian societies, and to engage and challenge conventional Western humanistic and social scientific theories of modernity and globalization.
