Applicants must have the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in psychology (24 semester hours) including courses in behavioral statistics and research methods, GRE scores, a statement of purpose, and 3 letters of recommendation addressing the applicant’s academic preparation, suitability for graduate study, and appraisal of the applicant’s personal and moral standards for professional conduct.
In most cases, applicants with the material listed above who have at least a 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA, at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA in psychology courses, a verbal GRE scores of at least 150, and a quantitative GRE score of at least 150 are considered for admission. Submit official transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended. TOEFL Internet Based Total: 79, TOEFL Paper-Based Total: 550, IELTS Total: 6.5

The Lamar University Master of Science Degree in Applied Psychology program qualifies you professionally to work in a non-clinical capacity in health and human services and psychology. You will be able to help social workers, healthcare workers, psychologists and other professionals to provide services to people. Professionals with this degree typically work under the direction of workers from a variety of fields, such as nursing, psychiatry, psychology or social work. Job settings typically include private practices, schools, offices, hospitals, community centers and businesses.<br> <br>In preparing professionals for community-based mental health services, the Clinical Psychology track includes training in therapy techniques for individuals, groups, and families. Curriculum also includes intellectual and personality assessment. Test construction, community consultation, therapy techniques and psychological assessment comprise specialized course work. Plus, a variety of community mental health settings provide useful experience for the practicum. Practicum experience prepares students for child, adolescent and adult counseling and assessments.
