If an applicant's primary language is not English, the applicant must present a TOEFL® score of 500 or higher on a paper-based examination, a score of 173 on a computer-based examination, an internet-based score ( iBT ) of 61, or an IELTS™ score of 6.0 or higher.
Admission to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is based on a review of application materials by the program faculty. Strong applicants show evidence of academic success and potential for success in graduate school (e.g., evidenced by GPA, GRE scores, and letters of recommendation), potential success in developing interpersonal relationships in the counseling context, and an openness to personal and professional development. Preference is given to individuals who possess knowledge of mental health issues and aptitude to work in counseling through coursework, research experience, and/or volunteer or professional work experiences.
Required documents for admissions are as follows:
Submission of a completed Graduate School Application.
Submission of official transcripts showing successful completion of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Submission of official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores. Scores must be from within five years of application. Requirement for GRE scores may be waived for applicants with an overall undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, or completion of a previous graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
Submission of a two- to three-page Personal Goal Statement indicating the applicant's reasons for undertaking graduate study in mental health counseling, personal attributes, and future goals.
Submission of three letters of recommendation. Letters should be from individuals who can address the applicant's academic and professional potential.
Submission of a resume or curriculum vitae.
Successful background check.
