An undergraduate major in literature (comparative and/or world literature, English, or any foreign language and literature).Grade point average of 3.0 in the undergraduate major or consent of the graduate coordinator.1.Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate campus authority,
2.be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended,
3.Have a 3.0 GPA or better in their earned undergraduate degree or the last 60-semester (90-quarter) units completed, or have earned a post-baccalaureate degree, and
4.Meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus may make exceptions to these criteria.

The Master of Arts in Comparative Literature combines the objectives of graduate study in foreign languages and literature with an emphasis on the intercultural and international aspects of literature. The goal of the program is to provide graduate training in subjects common to more than one national literature. Research work in the program is directed toward the problems of literary theory and analysis, genre studies, and literary history.<br>Program Learning Outcomes<br>Students will develop an understanding of the scope and goals of the field of Comparative Literature. <br>Students will become familiar with various traditions of literary theory.<br>Students will explore one particular body of literary theory or criticism in depth.<br>Students will learn to analyze, in oral form, texts from multiple literary traditions, at a level appropriate to someone newly entering the profession.<br>Students will learn to analyze, in written form, texts from multiple literary traditions, at a level appropriate to someone newly entering the profession.<br>Students will achieve the ability to read and analyze literature in at least one foreign, i.e., non-native, language at the graduate level.<br>Students will explore the relation of a single national literature to other literatures.<br>Students will participate in the larger community of comparatists.
