Academic Preparation. Successful students are prepared students and we want to make sure youre ready for the rigors of college-level work. We recommend:
4 years of English
3-4 years of math (through second year algebra or pre-calculus)
3 years of natural sciences (two or more with a lab component)
2 years of the same foreign language
Transcripts from all secondary and postsecondary schools attended or are attending including diplomas examination results mark sheets and certificates Unofficial transcripts and other academic documents are acceptable for admission decision making Uploaded documents will show as received only AFTER an admissions counselor has completed the evaluation.

Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL 71 iBT undergraduate.
TOEFL Essential 7 Undergraduate.
International English Language Testing System IELTS Academic 6.0 undergraduate.
Pearson Test of English Academic Module PTE 48 undergraduate.
International Baccalaureate, grade of 5 in English at the Higher Level.
General Certificate of Education - A grade of A B or C in English from one of the five British-based examining boards undergraduate.
Successful completion of ESL level 112.

Western Michigan University's Japanese program leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Sciences. It has a strong focus on Japanese language and culture.<br><br>As a Japanese language student at WMU, you will study fundamental, intermediate and advanced Japanese, Japanese life and culture, and contemporary as well as modern and classical Japanese literature. You will also take an additional course in either advanced Japanese language or advanced literary readings.<br><br>To round out your program, you will choose electives with the help of your advisor. Electives may include courses that focus specifically on Japanese studies in other departments such as comparative religion, history or political science. All electives taken outside the Department of World Languages and Literatures must be approved by the Japanese advisor.
