The Classics department at Queen's has the honour of being one of the longest-running university departments in the country. Because our graduate program is small, we are able to provide our students with individual attention and support. Our students consistently win both internal and external awards and fellowships. Our faculty members have expertise in Greek and Roman archaeology, history, language and literature, so your research opportunities are vast and varied. You will also have multiple opportunities to get hands-on archaeological experience by taking part in faculty-supervised digs around the Mediterranean world.<br>The Department of Classics at Queen's University boasts a proud tradition of over 170 continuous years of instruction in Greek and Latin. Faculty members have expertise in Greek and Roman archaeology, history, ancient science, and language and literature so your research opportunities are vast and varied. Our graduate program will further enhance your passion for the ancient world and provide global opportunities for field experience at archaeological sites. As a small department that fosters congenial working relations, our students receive individual attention and support and are provided with many opportunities to engage fully in class discussions and mini-conferences. Funding opportunities are available to allow students to present their research at external conferences, enabling them to develop professional networks within the greater Classics community. Our students also have opportunities to travel to and participate in faculty-supervised archaeological excavations in Italy and Bulgaria, providing hands-on experience in an international setting. With coveted transferable skills (effective communications, critical thinking, problem solving), our graduates have gone on to successful careers in academia, museums, libraries, art galleries and archaeological excavation as well as in government, business, law, and medicine.
