The department offers a total of six majors: Spanish and Latin American Literatures and Cultures, Luso-Brazilian Language and Cultures, Latin American Studies, Iberian Studies, Romance Languages, and Spanish and Linguistics. In addition, minors are offered in Spanish, Portuguese, Latin American Studies, and Iberian Studies. An honors program for highly qualified students culminates in the writing of an honors thesis during the student's senior year.Students majoring in the department are encouraged to participate in the NYU in Madrid or NYU in Buenos Aires program or in one of NYU's exchange programs in Latin America. Students can also benefit from the department's frequent collaboration with NYU's Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and its King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center.
