The French Teaching major is a program developed for students who are interested in French and would like to pursue a teaching career. The major requires a total of 33 credit hours of courses in French Literature and Culture, in addition to others in grammar and teaching methodology. A French Proficiency Assessment is administered by the Department during the last semester of the program.

In order to receive a Utah teaching license, teaching majors will need to be admitted to the Secondary Education Licensure Program in the College of Education. Application to this program must be approved by the Department's teaching major advisor.

Students in the French Teaching major take courses in a wide variety of subjects related to French literature and culture. Topics and areas of focus range from medieval French literature to Francophone studies to contemporary issues facing the French speaking world.
