Benefit from language courses that are culturally grounded in the francophone world. Our course structure spans beginner to advanced levels, targets both oral and written proficiency, and focuses on students’ full development as competent readers, speakers and writers. Courses in our Bachelor of Arts (BA) programs in Carleton’s Department of French offer students the opportunity to specialize in literary studies or French linguistics or a pathway combining both. You may engage academically with topics ranging from emerging voices in Québec literature, Indigenous literature to writers from Africa and the Caribbean to the social dynamics of language. Co-op and exchange opportunities are available to students majoring in French. We offer a comprehensive approach to French Studies, geared to the interests and needs of students from all linguistic backgrounds. You can also integrate French into your other studies by expanding your BA with a minor in French or enrolling in a single course .
