German is one of the world's influential languages, and one of the most widely spoken first languages in Europe.<br>This program is designed to develop both a breadth of knowledge about German culture, and basic language fluency. <br>The Department of International Languages offers programs in Mandarin, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and German, as well as courses in Korean and Arabic. Studying languages helps you to develop skills such as cultural awareness, formal and informal speaking, knowledge of other countries, listening, mental agility, proof-reading, report-writing, editing, summarizing and verbal accuracy. The Department of International Languages at the University of Regina offers degree programs in Mandarin Chinese, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Students may choose any one of these language areas as their major or minor area of study or they may combine it with study in other disciplines. The department also offers 'stand-alone' certificates , which can be a good option for students in faculties with few electives. We also offer an expanding number of cross-listed/cognate courses with other disciplines, including History, Women's Studies, Music, Anthropology, International Studies, Political Science, Art History, Fine Arts and Philosophy, which can be credited towards a language major or minor. The Department also offers introductory courses in Arabic.
