The major in European Studies: Russia and Eastern Europe is offered jointly by the Department of German, Russian, and East European Studies and the Program in European Studies. The major combines a focus on Russian and East European societies with a study of modern Europe's political, economic, and cultural diversity. Students are encouraged to study abroad to further enhance their educational experience.<br>The program prepares students for a wide range of careers in law, business, government, intelligence, the Foreign Service, journalism, museum curatorship, and higher education. Several of our recent majors have pursued graduate degrees, including at Stanford, Georgetown, and the University of Helsinki, Finland. Others have pursued business careers either in Russia and Eastern Europe or with firms whose interests require close dealings with the region. Still others have built successful careers as corporate executives.
