You will be required to submit all official secondary-school records. This includes certificates, examination grades, degrees or diplomas in original language of issue. You must also include official verification of high school completion.
Official English translations of all academic records including certificates, degrees or diplomas.
You will be considered for admission to CSUN as an international freshman if you meet the following requirements:
You have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale or an average of B grades on an A - F letter grading scale. (CSUN will convert your international GPA when you apply for admission.)
You have met our English language requirement:
Duolingo English Test - 95
IELTS - 6.0, TOEFL Internet Based score - 61, TOEFL Paper-based score - 500

Linguistics studies human language, seeking to define its nature, to establish its relationship to human thought, to discover what distinguishes human language from other forms of communication (human and nonhuman), to understand how children develop a language and acquire additional ones, to understand the ways in which languages may differ from one another, and to describe how human beings use language in context to engage in all the other human activities. <br>The Department of Linguistics/TESL is committed to student success, with a focus on equity and inclusion. Students in the department engage with the study of human language from a broad spectrum of perspectives. These perspectives include formal, cognitive and social approaches to linguistics, as well as the theory and practice of language teaching and learning. Courses in linguistics seek to illustrate the importance of language across social interactions, focusing on both language knowledge and use. Many of our courses discuss the ways in which language is a site for social oppression and self-expression. Courses in TESL are oriented toward the application of linguistic and educational research on language teaching, assessment and curriculum development. The department fosters an appreciation of the diversity of language learners and the variety of educational settings. The faculty of the department is committed to excellence in teaching, research and service, with the knowledge that an appreciation of linguistic and cultural diversity is a crucial aspect of an inclusive society.
