国际学生入学条件
GSAS welcomes applications for admission from individuals who have or will have by the time of matriculation a BA, BS, or equivalent undergraduate degree (for prospective international students, a three- or four-year undergraduate degree from an institution of recognized standing) and actively seeks applicants from groups historically underrepresented in graduate schools.
Applicants are required to upload transcript copies from each college/university they attended into our online application system: official hard copy/paper transcripts are not required at the time of application.
All applicants must submit a formal application to the Graduate School, which collates all required materials and forwards the student’s dossier to the Department, where it is evaluated by the faculty. Final decisions on admissions are made by an Admissions Committee, made up by NELC faculty, in consultation with the GSAS dean. Notification of decisions is normally made in mid-March. Admitted students have approximately one month to accept or decline an offer.
Applicants who are non-native English speakers and who received their undergraduate degree from an academic institution where English is not the primary language of instruction must prove their English proficiency by earning either a minimum score of 80 on the Internet based test (iBT) of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test.

The program in Jewish History and Culture focuses on the history and literature of the Jewish people from late antiquity to modern times. While students generally choose to focus their interests by period, the program itself stresses vertical competence: all students are expected to gain some competence in chronological periods other than their main one. The program in Jewish History and Culture is divided chronologically into five periods. The periods are as follows: The Hebrew Bible in its Jewish Interpretive Context, Ancient Jewish History and Culture, Medieval Jewish History and Culture, Modern Jewish History and Culture and Modern Jewish Literatures. As an alternative to specialization by chronological period, students may choose to focus their studies along thematic lines, for example on the history of Jewish biblical exegesis. Ability to work with classical Hebrew sources in the original is a prerequisite for admission to the program. Students will generally develop their own individualized course of study in consultation with their advisors, at the same time, it is expected that all students will achieve significant mastery of the broad sweep of Jewish cultural history, and of the areas outside Jewish History and Culture most appropriate to their field. For example, a student specializing in modern Jewish cultural history in Europe would be expected to demonstrate general knowledge of the course of pre-modern Jewish cultural history as well as the relevant areas of modern European culture.
