International applicants should have excellent English speaking and writing skills. Those who have not taken significant advanced study in programs taught in English will have to take the TOEFL or IELTS. Minimum scores: TOEFL: IBT - 100, Computer - 250, Paper - 600. IELTS: 7.0

The doctoral program engages students in the interdisciplinary study of global media within an intellectual community of scholars and media producers. Concepts and methods drawn from various research traditions in the field are compared and contrasted, while specialization in particular areas and approaches is open to students. Students receive a strong theoretical and methodological foundation through a flexible, college-wide program designed to produce outstanding scholars and teachers who make significant contributions to the understanding of mass media. Students work closely with nationally and internationally accomplished faculty members with expertise in a variety of media scholarship.
