Public relations involves the building of long-term and mutually beneficial relationships between an organization and its customers, community groups, lawmakers, investors and others that influence its success. Western Michigan University's public relations program combines projects, case-study reviews and practical learning experiences to prepare you to serve as a public relations professional. The program also incorporates the study of attitudes and behaviors, which will help you understand how to best reach your target audiences and counsel management on matters relating to communication and public opinion. This is a writing-intensive field and solid communication skills are a necessity.
