The Master of Arts in Media Studies program welcomes applications from individuals whose education and experience demonstrates motivation and creativity. Recent college graduates, people working in related fields, and career changers are all welcome. GRE or GMAT test scores are not required.
Statement of Purpose
Your statement of purpose should be a thoughtful description of your background as it relates to your intended plan of study or area of inquiry in the field as you now envision it. It should also explain how the MA program (with its mix of theory and production) or the MS or advanced certificate program (with its combination of media-oriented business education and research and critical analysis of media practices, its faculty and courses, its position within The New School and in New York, and its resources) will help you realize your goals. Submit Your R'sum or CV
Submit a one to two-page r'sum/curriculum vitae summarizing your academic qualifications, relevant work experience, published writing, volunteer/community work, professional networking, public speaking, and/or any other relevant experiences that may relate to your field of study, including dates and positions held. Please also note any special language or computer skills that you have.
Submit Two Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation from professional and/or academic references are required. Recommendations must be submitted by recommenders directly via the online application portal. Instructions are included in the online application.
Submit College Transcripts
Applicants must upload an unofficial transcript, mark sheet, or academic record for each institution (even if you didnt receive a degree) in the Academic History section of the online application.

Courses in digital cinema production enable students to learn skills involved in film and video production, including producing, screenwriting, directing, advanced editing, cinematography, lighting, sound, and post-production. Drawing on film history, theory, and aesthetics, students gain skills and experience in the creation of new modes of cinematic expression.<br>The master's program in Media Studies offers a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum in media theory and practice with an emphasis on the production of film, video, audio, and emerging media. Gain experience in creative media making, critical analysis and reflection, and entrepreneurship and management - guided by a faculty that includes noted film and media-makers, researchers, designers, and scholars.
