Journalists are the eyes and ears of society. The news reporting and editing concentration allows you to combine reporting and editing skills with hands-on photography, graphic design, and video and audio recording to present truthful, balanced messages to a variety of audiences. Youll master the fundamentals of journalistic narrative structure, and once youre an expert in nut grafs, leads and kickers, youll learn to craft compelling and hard-hitting stories in multimedia formats. Youll learn- to find the essence of any story you report, and to write the story to communicate the key facts effortlessly and effectively, to report for clarity and factuality, adhering to proper Associated Press style and maintaining journalistic integrity with rigorous editing and fact-checking, to understand the ins and outs of communications law, the First Amendment and how it all applies to the world of journalism. The news reporting and editing concentration will provide you with the skills to think critically, creatively and independently, whether your ambition is to be a writer, designer, editor, photographer, anchor or producer.
