Admission to the master’s programs requires:
completed admission form,
an earned bachelor’s degree, and
a 3.0 undergraduate gpa (on a 4.0 scale) and a total score of 370 on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), OR
a 2.5 to 2.99 undergraduate gpa (on a 4.0 scale) and a total score of 396 on the GRE.
Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools from which you have received credit. Printouts or opened copies are not acceptable.
International students and applicants who have earned a degree from a non-English institution must provide proof of English proficiency as follows: minimum of 80 on TOEFL IBT (or 550 paper based), IELTS 6.5.
(MELAB) Michigan English Language Assessment Battery minimum score of 82 for graduate study.
Successful completion of the advanced level of INTO Marshall Academic English level 6 with no grades below B.
Successful completion of INTO Marshall Pathway course ENG 160 or ENG 101A with minimum grade C.
Diploma or degree from an English speaking school – a degree or diploma from an accepted accredited college or university in which the primary language of instruction for the entire institution is English.
You have graduated from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.

A master's degree in journalism and mass communications may be appropriate for students who want to build new professional skills, who want to enter research related fields or who want to prepare for a Ph.D. program. This is a flexible program designed to accommodate persons with or without an undergraduate degree in journalism and with or without mass communications or professional media experience. Career interests should include one or more of the following: advertising, broadcast journalism, online journalism, print journalism, public relations, radio-television, sports journalism and journalism education. The W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications offers a Master of Arts In Journalism. Students may choose from professional or thesis tracks to complete the required 30 credit hours.
