Personal Statement of Purpose: Identify and explain your option of interest - Biology or Chemistry (please be sure to make this choice clear in your letter) - as well as describing your professional interests and career goals.
Letters of Reference: At least two letters of reference can be submitted by the student's undergraduate adviser, research adviser, and/or an instructor for an upper level course taken as part of their major.
Unofficial Transcripts: Upload non-official transcripts from each institution of higher education you have attended as an undergraduate or graduate student. You will only be required to provide official transcripts if you accept admission.
GRE Score: The GRE is not required. Submission of scores is optional. If you choose to submit, send your GRE score electronically to Penn State University using school code 2660.
International applicants must take and submit scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), with the exceptions noted below. The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the Internet-based test (iBT). Applicants with iBT speaking scores between 15 and 18 may be considered for provisaaional admission, enrollment, and, if necessary, remedial course work. Our M.P.S. in Forensic Science offers students a foundation in general criminalistics with specialized education and training in either Forensic Biology or Forensic Chemistry. Students are able to further pursue individual forensic interests with a research project on a topic or area of interest.<br><br>The Master's program in Forensic Science at Penn State University is a two-year program that features an exciting and innovative curriculum that offers students advanced, hands-on training in crime scene investigation techniques and crime laboratory methodologies. State-of-the-art crime scene training facilities and crime laboratories are used to train students in the practices of modern forensics. Specialized training is provided in forensic biology, forensic chemistry, and criminalistics. Students are also educated on the role of forensic scientists in the criminal justice system through direct exposure to courtroom proceedings and interaction with forensic experts, criminal lawyers, defense attorneys and police investigators.<br><br>Our students are not required to write a thesis, but they are required to perform publishable quality research. In consultation with their research adviser, students can choose to create their own project or join a project already in progress.
