The Criminal Justice Program offers courses in the study of criminal behavior, criminal law, and proactive and reactive strategies of social control of crime. It is unique in the following ways: The program emphasizes an interdisciplinary view of crime and its control, including policing, crime prevention through personal change and community development, taught within the context of the traditional liberal arts, The program offers opportunities to study within agencies dealing with crime and justice, The program offers courses that broadly educate students in the full range of issues related to the social nature of crime, criminal law and social control.<br><br>Our small classes are taught by scholars who are experts in their fields of criminal justice and sociology. They are supported by adjunct faculty who have experience as criminal justice attorneys, gang unit and state police officers, and probation administrators, providing you with both theoretical and applied criminal justice classroom and mentoring experiences. In the criminal justice program, student internships are required. Some of the placements include Homeland Security, state and federal probation systems, state and local police departments, and local and regional courts. There are also cooperative education opportunities available for students to develop and implement a project with an agency. Our Washington semester offers classes at American University in Washington D.C., where you could land an internship with a government agency.
