Have your undergraduate institution submit an official copy of your transcript. We will review a copy of a transcript, but admission is contingent on having an official transcript sent from the institution to SIU's Graduate School,
Have three letters of recommendation, preferably from your college instructors or other professionals in a position to relay your potential as a scholar, sent through the Apply Now website (instructions will be sent to the persons writing your letters). There is also an evaluation form they will need to complete. Evaluations coming from other professionals will be considered, but the committee will want to have feedback on your academic potential. We recommend that you waive your right to review the letters so that the authors feel they can write a candid assessment,
Submit a personal statement. The statement should highlight your academic achievements as well as your goals for completing our master's program. The goals should include academic and professional aims. Address how our department can assist you in your professional aims,
Be sure to indicate whether you want to be considered for a paid graduate assistantship for the academic year. Graduate assistants help faculty members with teaching and research tasks,
If you are an international student, you will need to take the TOEFL English proficiency test and have that submitted with your application (the minimum requirements for English proficiency by the SIU Graduate school are: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, 213 on the computer-based TOEFL, 80 on the internet-based TOEFL, or, 6.5 on the IELTS).
Admission into the criminology and criminal justice graduate program requires a grade point average of 2.70 or higher from the last 60 hours of undergraduate courses for applicants with a bachelor's degree, or from the last 45 hours of undergraduate courses for applicants completing their bachelor's degree.
