Economics majors and minors learn the traditional tools and concepts of economics, theories and quantitative procedures applicable to economics and related disciplines and techniques and methodologies employed by economic practitioners. Because it studies human behavior, economics is a social science. It is a quantitative, policy-related discipline. Economists seek to understand how economic agents (individuals, firms, and society) use scarce resources to satisfy their goals, on the one hand, and the consequences of those decisions, on the other hand. The Department also offers a minor in economics for students who intend to pursue careers or further education in fields that require a strong background in economics.
