Applicants may choose two tracks of MSW study
Regular Track
Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in something other than social work.
For applicants who have a bachelors degree in something other than social work or a BSW from a nonaccredited university
Take one year of courses focused on foundation content
Take one year of courses focused on clinical activist social work content

You must include a Personal and Professional Statement in your application packet The Personal and Professional Statement will be used to evaluate your critical thinking selfreflective capacities creativity and advanced writing skills The statement should be 4 to 6 pages in length and address the following questions to the fullest extent possible

How did you become interested in social work What motivated you to choose social work as a profession
Describe some personal traits and abilities that make you particularly suited for the profession of social work
What are your career objectives as a professional social worker
Describe your professional social work activities If you do not currently work in the social work field please describe how your work life or volunteer experience relates to professional social work activities
Describe a situation in which you were confronted with an ethical conflict How did you resolve it
Discuss a social problem of interest to you How do you envision a social workers role in addressing the problem

Test of English as a Foreign Language - A score of 79 internet-based or 550 paper-based is the university minimum requirement for all graduate students.
IELTS - The minimum score required is a 6.0 overall band score Texas AM University Kingsville only accepts scores submitted electronically by the IELTS test center.
DET - The university most competitive applicants have DET scores of at least 100.

Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, the Clinical/Activist MSW program at Texas A&M University-Kingsville prepares graduates for advanced social work practice with the diverse populations and social service settings in the rural U.S./Mexico border and outlining regions. The MSW degree program will prepare students to function in a variety of Social Work and/or Social Service settings. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the master's level social work examination in Texas, however, requirements may vary in other states. Applicants to both MSW tracks (see below) must apply to the university and meet all requirements for admission. Applicants must also meet specific MSW program admissions requirements. See the Admission to MSW link to the left for additional information. All applicants are initially accepted conditionally, as they must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester to maintain admission without stipulation. Applicants may choose two tracks of MSW study: Regular Track For applicants who have a bachelor's degree in something other than social work or a BSW from a non-accredited university.
