The Latino population is the fastest growing minority group in the United States, thus, it is imperative that social workers and other mental health practitioners be knowledgeable about how to effectively serve this community. LISTA fills this need by providing culturally sensitive training to social work students. LISTA is a new Rutgers School of Social Work Area of Emphasis focused on training social work students to serve Latino/a communities and clients. LISTA offers students courses in social work practice specific to Latino/a populations to increase cultural competency, optional courses for social workers on the professional use of Spanish, and study abroad opportunities in Mexico, Puerto Rico and/or Costa Rica.
