Admission is competitive. Applicants must meet both the competitive admission average for the specific program and present specific required courses with the minimum required grades. In addition to meeting general admission requirements, admission to the Bachelor of Social Work requires the following specific high school courses (or equivalents).
Applicants in all admission categories must present:
English Language Arts 30-1 - minimum grade 65%
Social Studies 30-1 or Aboriginal Studies - minimum grade 60%
Competitive admission average
Admission to Mount Royal is competitive, meaning students with higher grades will be considered first.
High School Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on two highest Group A courses.
Mature Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on two highest Group A courses.
Post-secondary Applicant: competitive Grade Point Average (GPA) will be calculated on the four most recently completed transferable post-secondary courses (minimum 12 credits)
Final admission average
High School Applicant: must present a minimum admission average of 65%, calculated on the five appropriate Grade 12 courses. Must also present the required courses and minimum grades listed above.
Mature Applicant: must present the required courses and minimum grades listed above.
Post-secondary applicant: must present a minimum admission Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 on the eight most recently completed transferable post-secondary courses (minimum 24 credits)

Mount Royal’s BSW is a direct entry, four-year degree with a unique focus on generalist practice, Indigenous ways of knowing, diversity and social justice. Gain extensive hands-on experience working with individuals, children, families, groups and communities in complex social settings. Choose from a generalist approach to social work practice or pursue a child intervention concentration. The Bachelor of Social Work is designed to meet the standards for excellence in social work practice and graduates are eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). Practicum is a valuable experiential opportunity to put your academic learning into practice. Required for the Bachelor of Social Work, you will gain program-related field experience while under supervision that will help connect theory to real-world application and prepare you for employment upon graduation.
