Completion of an Early Childhood Care and Education Certificate from an approved BC institutionBC high school graduation or equivalentEnglish 12 or equivalent, with a minimum of 60% or better or a minimum LPI score of level 4Applicants, whose first language is not English, or who have received their primary education in a language other than English, are required to provide proof of English language proficiency in one of thefollowing ways: (a) completion of BC English 12 with a minimum final grade of C+ at an English curriculum secondary school where English is the primary language(b) completion of International Baccalaureate (IB) English Language A (Higher level) with a minimum grade of 3 or C(c) completion of the Advanced 4 and 5 (or equivalent) of the Selkirk College English Language Program with a minimum of ”C+” (60%)average in core subjects and provincial level English 51, with at least a "C+"grade(d)

This is the second year of training in the Social Service Worker Program and prepares students for work in a variety of multi-disciplinary settings.Practicum experience in community agencies develops your working knowledge of partnerships, hands-on training in the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and employment opportunities within your client group.Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:Demonstrate professionalism in practice consistent with the code of ethics and standards of practice of their respective disciplinesUse effective interpersonal skills, including active listening, collaboration, self-awareness and conflict resolution within multi-faceted roles and contextsUnderstand and respect cultural differences and multiple ways of knowingPractice from an ethic of inclusivityEstablish and maintain wellness strategies to assure worklife balance both personally and professionallyEngage in critical thinking, problem-solving and reflective practice
