This major includes all requirements to be endorsed for two Resident Educator multi-age licenses from the Ohio Department of Education in the areas of Health Education and Physical Education. These licenses are valid for teaching learners from grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12 in the content areas of Health and Physical Education. The primary career path for this major is to work as a full-time licensed teacher in a K-12 public or private school teaching health and/or physical education classes. Majors have the option to teach at all grade levels, including pre-school, elementary, middle or high schools. Many teachers in these positions also work as coaches for school sports. The Health and Physical Education licensure program provides both a curriculum and laboratory/field experiences that allow students to gain competencies in each of the six standards established by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Major courses include a 5-semester sequence of rotations and internships, each of which involve the integration of lecture and fieldwork components. The curriculum includes content in the areas of exercise science, instruction in sports skills and activities, health and wellness concepts, and strategies for teaching and assessing learners at all grade levels in health education and physical education classrooms.
